About Ricardo Jarama
I am Ricardo Jarama, a Peruvian artist who has been living and working in Athens since 2007. I was trained at the Escuela Nacional Superior Autonoma de Bellas Artes de Peru, where I specialised in sculpture and drawing. In Peru, I mainly made abstract sculptures in different types of stone, in combination with wood and metal. Since moving to Athens, I have mainly made figurative paintings and drawings, and sculptures as well. A special aspect of my working method is that I complete the final versions of my drawings and paintings in my sketchbooks. For me, everything starts with drawing. My sketchbooks contain completed drawings. I transfer some of them onto a canvas or panel in acrylic paint, or onto a larger-sized piece of paper in mixed media. The sketchbooks are my treasure troves. Several series have emerged from them in the past decades, which merge into each other in terms of content and style, and continue to develop. These series are, in chronological order, Naturama, Koko, Futuro and the most recent, which is still in an early stage, La Super Realidad. On this website, you will find a text with background information for each series.
